Important Info:

Team t-shirt pick up will be held at Kauffman Stadium in Lot A, beginning Thursday, October 2.

Below is the schedule and pick up times.  Please go to the registration tent when you arrive to the lot.

  • Thursday, October 2nd from 8:30am-4:30pm
  • Friday, October 3rd from 8:30am- 4:30pm
  • Saturday, October 4th from 10:00am-2:00pm

If your team has had family and friends register since the team name deadline (September 15th), those shirts will be added to your team’s shirt box.

Please keep in mind that online registration will close on Friday, October 3rd at 5:00pm. After that day and time, guests may register the day of event at the registration tent, although we can not guarantee shirt sizes that day.

 Team Tent Drop Off:

For teams that raised the minimum $500 level+ please bring your tent (if you wish) with you. At that time, you will pick your tent location and pick up your walk shirts. Your tent will be labeled with your team name.

*Please remember to bring with you, sandbags/weights, and anything heavy to keep the base of your tent from blowing away.

Feel free to also bring extra tables, chairs and anything you/your team may need.

Day of event, Saturday, October 4:

Team t-shirts will also be available for pick up the morning of the walk, starting at 10:00am. Please stop by the registration tent that morning to pick up your team shirts.

Team Tents:

Team tents may also be dropped off the morning of the walk. We will have volunteers available to help unload your vehicle that morning. The drop off lane starts at the north entrance of Lot A and concludes at the south  entrance (see the attached map) of Lot A.  If you plan to bring and set up your personal tent, on the day of the event, we ask that you set up your tent within the team tent area (see map and legend).    Teams can stake their “spot” in any available area within the team tent area.  Space is first come, first serve, starting at 8:00am.

Inclement Weather:

*While we do not anticipate any weather emergencies, specifically lightning,  I would like for you to please be on alert of announcements during the event.  We will share any related information from the stage.

If lighting is spotted, 8 miles from Kauffman Stadium, we will ask guests to please shelter inside of their cars, and we will announce when we have the all clear to return back to the event.

Please share this information with your teammates.

Furry Friends:

While we all love our furry friends, please do not bring your pet to the Step Up Walk.

If you have a support dog, please be sure they are wearing the appropriate harness that is clearly marked.

Heaters/Grills:

Please keep in mind that portable propane heaters and or grills are not allowed during the event.

Lifespan Village:

For the third year, the Step Up Walk will feature our lifespan village with tents for each age level, this is a great way to connect and gather with other families and friends.

Lost Individual:

In the situation that an individual is lost, please head directly to the stage. The DJ will alert Amy Stoll, and we will make announcements.

First Aid:

We will have medical staff on hand for any emergency. The medical ambulance will be located near the registration tent.

About

Down Syndrome

Down syndrome is a genetic condition caused when cell division results in an extra full or partial copy of chromosome 21. The medical term is Trisomy 21 due to the triplicate copy. This extra genetic material causes the developmental delays and physical features associated with Down syndrome. There is no known cause or cure for Down syndrome. Chances of having a baby with the condition are increased with maternal age. However, a majority of babies are born to mothers who are under 35 years of age.

Down Syndrome Innovations is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization whose mission is to provide life-changing support and services that enable people with Down syndrome to live to their fullest potential. Down Syndrome Innovations, formerly Down Syndrome Guild of Kansas City (DSG), was founded in 1984 and serves as the expert resource and lead community mobilizer, sharing knowledge and creating solutions for people with Down syndrome.
