OH BOY! We have a 12 year old Morty running around these days! Watch out! He is on the move, especially Mr. Cool going into 7th grade! He is starting to look (and sound) so grown up! He is losing his baby face (and his last baby tooth this year HA!), he’s getting taller, and now has a DEEP voice! He says “Mom, Dad , do you wish I was a baby still, I am big boy now”. We are like “DON’T REMIND US!!” It’s bittersweet to see him continue to grow how we have always dreamed and hoped he would, but also miss him being little and needing us for everything. We couldn’t be happier that he is so proud of himself.
This year, Morty moved out his brother’s room and has his own space. Surprisingly, he is cleaner than his siblings and loves things sort of in order :). Don’t worry, there is plenty of spiderman in there EVERYWHERE you turn!
Morty loves school. He like’s to do homework and continuing to learn to read. Our next learning goal is going to be to learn to tie a shoe and master independence in washing all the soap out of his MULLET when he showers HA! Morty advanced to YELLOW belt in Karate! That has been a great sport for him, check out his karate pics in the gallery below! Morty also went to bike camp again this year, he is working on confidence and balance on the bike. He has enjoyed being out on the family boats and going to the lake, he loves sleeping in the camper too. Morty showed off his braveness this year by getting a pet snake named Pearl! He isn’t scared at all to hold her!
We always have things to tackle and work on with Morty (like all our kids), but we know the challenges are unique. We are grateful for friends and family who have supported Morty and the Down syndrome community over the years. It is an honor for us to help host a team to raise money in support of the Down Syndrome Innovations organization. We know they are only a call away to help us navigate any journey we are on.
Thank you for your kindness to Morty, our family, and the Down syndrome community! Let’s celebrate another great year for Morty!! Thank you!!!!
